Long Road There

The one on top was just another quaint store we passed by...

<-- This one is dedicated to mom, we just happened to walk by on our way to the hotel.

I am writing this froma lodge in the Amsterdam Airport, our 10:30 flight was delayed 2 hours (not sure why) so we have a little time to kill...

Our first flight was easy (compared to the rest) it was a short 4 hour flight with a 4 hour layover in which we met up with Rob's dad (Papa Drake as DJ calls him). Our next flight was also 'short'. An 8 1/2 hour flight to Amsterdam, each seat was equipped with a tv screen, tv shows, a library of movies, and games. We spent a little time walking around Amsterdam when we arrived then went to our hotel room and slept. We were all hit hard with exhaustion and decided that our health was more important, so we mostly relaxed yesterday. That also meant we didn't get to go see the Ann Frank House, very sad. We did get out about the town later that night though.

We learned a lot about the culture of Amsterdam even in our brief outings. It is a MAJOR bike town! And when they are not biking they are walking. Something I noticed (and am envious of) is the women of Amsterdam all have amazing shoes! They all wear heels/boots/or nice shoes constantly and can walk on the uneven brick roads (impressive) and bike in them (extremely impressive)! This is definetly an international tourist town.

Now we are waiting for our next flight, a killer 11 hour flight that will get us into South Africa around 11:30 (since it has been delayed). We are looking forward to getting there - and finally having some heat on our 'spring break'!

More later,
~anja
